Palapes Members Should Join Territorial Army, Decrees Raja Muda Perlis

Alor Setar, 24 Oct (Bernama) – Raja  Muda Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail decreed that every member of the Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) who completed their studies should join the Territorial Army.

“It is the responsibility of Palapes members to serve with the Army or join the Territorial Army to repay the government for funding their training.

“Employers should also understand the commitment of former members of Palapes by giving their employees time off to contribute their invaluable services to the country,” he said.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin spoke during the Regimental Evening Dinner In Conjunction With The Royal Commissioning of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Palapes Cadet Officers 8th Intake Year 2015 here last night.

Also gracing the ceremony with her presence was Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Also present was UniMAP Vice Chancellor Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin, Commander of the Sixth Infantry Brigade Brig. Jen. Marzuki Muhammad and Perlis Chief of Police SAC Shafie Ismail.

According to His Highness, employers might be wary at first of releasing their employees for training but they will realise that this contribution is among the reasons why the country is peaceful and safe.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said that Palapes members should always focus on the military profession and attend courses that would enhance their level of professionalism.

His Highness who is also the UniMAP Chancellor and the Commander of the 504 Regiment Territorial Army based at Bukit Ketri Camp, Padang Besar, said that Palapes personnel should also be the eyes and ears of the government.

“I expect you to report on elements that threaten national security.

“Working as a military officer is a commitment and a noble duty related to being a Defender of The Faith, King and Country as well as fostering the spirit of national loyalty,” he added.

According to His Highness, a career in the military albeit undistinguished is recognised as a noble and reputable profession.

During the ceremony, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin handed out prizes to the recipient of the UniMAP Best Cadet Officer Award 2015 Ezza Rina Mohd Isa (overall), Phuah Yong Zen (academic) and Mohamad Fadhil Azizi (military).
