USIM Student Wins Islamic Youth Da'wah Oration
ARAU, 25 Ockt (Bernama) - Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) student Siti Suhailah Shaharuddin was crowned champion of the Islamic Youth Da'wah Oratory Competition Minister's Trophy at the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
The Fiqh and Taqwa Studies sophomore student from the Faculty of Shariah and Law defeated six other contestants at the finals at Dewan Kecemerlangan, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) here today.
Siti Suhailah, 22, who orated the subject “Muslim Youth Agent of Transformation for the Ummah” did not expect to win in view of the stiff competition.
“Alhamdulillah... it is my rizq,” she said when met after receiving a cash prize, a championship trophy, challenge trophy and a certificate from Datuk Othman Mustapha, the Chief Director of the Malaysian Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM).
Siti Suhailah also said she intends to join the Islamic reality show Da'i-Pendakwah Milenia.
Second place went to Nurul Afifah Mohd Salleh, a student of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang, and the third to USIM student Irfan Mohd Fairus.
Othman who met with reporters after the competition said that the inaugural “Muslim Youth Agent of Transformation for the Ummah”-themed oratory competition was held to produce young missionaries among the youth.
“The programme which is oriented on building pious, credible and charismatic leadership will continue,” he said.
He said that even more programmes to ignite Islamic da'wah on campus will be implemented to fight social ills on campus and to gain the views of the younger generation about matters of the community.
Othman said that the youth are the most important national assets as they bear the responsibility to continue the process of da'wah, development of the ummah and human capital.
The competition was organised by JAKIM together with UniMAP, Taqwa Foundation, Wasatiyyah Institute, iM4U and the Malaysian Universities Debate Council (MADUM).
