UniMAP Gas Leackage Detector Robot Won Gold Medal In PECIPTA 2015
Kuala Lumpur, December 7 - Mobile Robot based Gas Source Localization for Monitoring, Search and Rescue Operation, a research results of Kamarulzaman Kamarudin from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) won the gold medal in the International Higher Education Institute Exhibition Conference and Creation Expo (PECIPTA) 2015.
Apart from the robot, a research product by Dr. Gomesh Nair A / L Shasidaran, High Power Three-level Single Phase Transformerless Photovoltaic Inverter also contributed a gold medal at the exhibition held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), here.
According to Kamarulzaman representing Researchers from the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Sensor Technology (CEASTech) UniMAP, product design is a robot that can be used to detect a gas leakage in the building.
"This robot will facilitate the work of rescue because it is able to map out the structure and distribution of gas in an area, from there we can detect the position or the source of the gas leakage.
"The system can also be modified to the specifications of a disaster situation for examples earthquakes and explosive substance detection," he said after the PECIPTA 2015 Prize Giving Ceremony, here today.
Meanwhile, a researcher from the School of Electrical System Engineering, Dr. Gomesh Nair said, the product design is ideal for use in remote areas that do not have electricity.
"High Power Three-Level Single Phase Transformerless Photovoltaic Inverter is capable of converting direct current (DC) solar power into alternating current (AC) of 25 kilowatts.
"Due to the high power capable endured, it's very practical in rural areas because of mild and low-cost equipment," he said.
Said Dr. Gomez, the product does not use a transformer that can cause energy loss due to heat and is able to supply power to equipment that uses high power like floodlights, chainsaws, motor home industry and basic equipment.
In addition to the two gold medals, UniMAP also won eight silver medals and 11 bronze medals at the (PECIPTA) 2015.
A total of 500 products from 44 public and private universities, as well as polytechnics participated in the exhibition held yearly.
