UniMAP Advances Alongside KPT, Committed to Achieve Seven KPI
Arau, 1 January – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) began a new year with willpower and determination to advance alongside the seven Key Performance Index (KPI) of the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) as outlined by its Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
UniMAP Vice Chancellor Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin said in his New Year's Mandate that 2016 will present enormous challenges not to mention the seven percent reduction in operational budget allocation.
He said that the challenges face this year would be immense whereby UniMAP would need to generate approximately RM80 million to support operational expenditure without increasing students' tuition fees.
On that basis, Dr. Kamarudin urged the UniMAP community to change and improve along with him in the aspects of attitude, mental, work habits and work practices to ensure UniMAP would be able to continue to operate and educate the nation.
“As a response to the requirement for a positive change, UniMAP is committed to achieve the KPI through outlined initiatives to ensure UniMAP's culture of competitiveness will be able to continue.
“We have to remember that KPI has to be reported to the Prime Minister where set targets require us to perform extensive changes to perform these new initiatives which are fresh, efficient and collectively effective,” he remarked.
He said this when delivering the 2016 New Year's Mandate to the UniMAP top management, administrators and lecturers at Dewan Kecemerlangan here today.
According to Dr. Kamarudin, since income generation is the primary focus of UniMAP, Datuk Prof. Dr. Salleh Din has been appointed as Assistant Vice Chancellor (Corporate Sustainability) whose responsibility would be to carry out activities to generate income generation activities through the offering of comprehensive short courses by all UniMAP Schools.
Besides that, Dr. Kamarudin explained that UniMAP is also committed in achieving the target of 80 percent student employment within six months of graduating compared to 72 percent this year.
He remarked that in the past this matter would be placed under the jurisdiction of the Centre for Industrial and Government Agencies Collaboration (CIGC), but this year each school should have a representative or an action committee for planning, monitoring and following up.
He clarified that UniMAP's internationalisation aspect would be spotlighted with the targeting of a total of 950 international students consisting of both Bachelor's and Master's Degree students.
“Research publication will also be UniMAP's focus therefore we will ensure all Centres of Excellence (COE) will be driven to produce more research publications of high quality of knowledge and meticulously plan research conferences to be benefited by Scopus and other bodies.
“We will also strive to discover new sources of grants locally and internationally to fund research activities and form win-win affiliations and collaborations with international universities, research institutes and researchers.
