UniMAP PPD Certified As SLDN Training Centre
Kangar, 22 January, The Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Diploma Learning Centre (PPD) was authorised by the Department of Skills Development (JPK) Ministry of Human Resources as a National Dual Training Centre (PLDN).
UniMAP Vice Chancellor Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin said that the authorisation was another catalyst toward creating a skilled workforce in line with the government's call to fortify the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) agenda in Malaysia.
He explained that because technical and vocational education is to be given due attention by all parties, UniMAP has set a strategy via the PLDN to ensure that the national educational development remains sustainable and competitive.
According to him, because of this accreditation students will undergo a theory learning session at UniMAP whereby practical training will be done at industry sites registered as a JPK training office.
“With this initiative, UniMAP Engineering Diploma students will not only receive the university diploma but also obtain a Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) upon the completion of their learning.
“This step will help students to graduate into becoming more competitive in the job market in the industry whether locally or abroad,” he said in a statement here today.
The UniMAP PPD previously known as the Diploma Programme Coordination Unit (UPPD) was formed on 1 April 2006 with the offering of six engineering diploma learning programmes namely Metallurgy Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Microelectronic Engineering and Electrical Engineering Diploma Programmes.
According to Dr. Kamarudin, through the PLDN, PPD received accreditation in 13 fields including Program Logic Senior Technician, Network (Design) Technician, Computer System Operation, Industrial Quality Control, Machining Operation, Semiconductor Assembly Production and Embedded Systems (Design) Technician.
Also, the UniMAP PPD also received accreditation for Single Phase Electrical Installation & Maintenance, Electrical Lighting and LED Installation & Maintenance, Shielded Metal Arc Welding Process, Gas Metal Arc Welding Process, Mechanical Draughting and Industrial Automation Engineering Support Service.
The accreditation will help opportunities to unfold for UniMAP in offering short term courses to outside parties and will also support the University Social Responsibility (USR) agenda towards society,” he said.
