UniMAP Promotes the Engineering Field
JELI 29 January – In its efforts in making engineering a favoured field among students, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) continues its commitment in promoting the engineering field among schoolchildren.
UniMAP Vice Chancellor Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin said engineering is capable of offering more employment opportunities to graduates.
“Nowadays, engineering is no longer monopolised by men, and there are even women engineers working in large corporations.”
“The promotion method from school to school allows UniMAP to highlight the uniqueness and benefits of engineering as one of its offered learning programmes,” he said recently in a speech during the Program Tambatan Ilmu 2016 Bersama Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kuala Balah in Jeli.
Also present were the Kuala Balah Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Aziz Derashid and the Principal of SMK Kuala Balah Hashim Ismail.
Datuk Kamarudin said that these efforts were in line with UniMAP's commitment in bolstering students' interest and thus producing more engineering graduates.
The programme which was organised by the Institute of Strategic Studies, Leadership and Community (IKSK) also was participated by the UniMAP Student Council (MPP).
Meanwhile, UniMAP continued with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts by donating solar panel technology to the school.
UniMAP had previously donated similar equipment to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kampung Laut in Tumpat.
SMK Kampung Laut is a foster school which received aid from UniMAP during the major flood disaster last year.
According to Kamarudin, the installation cost of the equipment was borne by two of UniMAP engineering schools (PPK) namely Electrical Systems and Microelectronic.
