The First Vice Chancellor Of UniMAP Retired

Pauh Putra, February 10 - The first Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin terminate his one year contract as Vice Chancellor, hence marked the record as the longest in position.

He who had retired as a civil servant on February 10 last year held the position for 14 years since February 16, 2002.

Dr Kamarudin was previously the rector of the university during the early establishment known as the Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia (KUKUM) who later became the Vice-Chancellor after KUKUM was upgraded as the 17th public universities (UA) with the name of UniMAP ever since.

Dr Kamarudin, who also celebrates his 61st birthday today was celebrated in a farewell ceremony in conjunction with his retirement as Vice Chancellor of UniMAP which was attended by all staff, Diploma students and international students in UniMAP Dewan Ilmu, here.

Also present were Chief Executive Officer of Astronaut Technology Sdn Bhd (ATSB), Dato' Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad and UniMAP top management line up.

Dr Kamarudin said that even after he was no longer the Vice Chancellor of UniMAP, he expressed the hope that all plans designed in prior can be realized so that UniMAP continues to excel in every aspect.

"Starting this year we will start with new work force for 2016-2020 strategy with many of the proposed initiatives. If initiatives remain as proposals, it will not lead this university anywhere. Work for it.

"Therefore, I hope that the new UniMAP's leadership will continue all the strategic agenda that has been undertaken or planned to help generate funding and ensure UniMAP’s name is always blooming and well known in the international arena," he said when delivering his last message here, today.

He also expressed his appreciation to Chancellor of UniMAP, His Royal Highness the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Pro-Chancellor of UniMAP, Her Royal Highness Raja Puan Muda Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Khalil Akashah and Perlis state government for giving credence to him in fellowship of developing the state of Perlis through the development of UniMAP.

The excellence of Dr Kamarudin as the Vice Chancellor continues to be recognized when the Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh appointed Dr Kamarudin as his Special Adviser at the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) beginning February 11, 2016.
