Public Universities Urged to Develop Facilities Using Wakaf Endowment System
Pattani, 15 February: All Public Universities (UA) have been urged to develop university facilities and infrastructures using funds that has been endowed by external parties using the wakaf system .
Special Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin said besides allowing the public and organisations to perform charity, it also helps the government to save.
“I've seen how wakaf funds used not solely for construction of buildings but also for the construction of laboratories for research purposes.
“I believe that with this method, we will gain the advantages from this sharing for the benefit of society,” he said when met during a visit to Fatoni University yesterday.
Datuk Kamarudin said he was impressed with the campus development accomplished by Fatoni University by using wakaf funds from foreign countries and individuals.
“We should promote the wakaf concept to develop higher learning institutions as done by Fatoni University for the benefit of local communities,” the former UniMAP Vice Chancellor said.
Earlier, he escorted the Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail to receive an Honorary Doctorate in Management Science from Yala Rajabhat University during a special convocation ceremony.
Also gracing the ceremony with her presence was UniMAP Pro Chancellor Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
Also in attendance was Perlis Executive Council Member for Islamic Affairs and Human Resource Development Khairi Hassan.
