Prof Dr Zul Azhar Appointed As UniMAP Acting Vice-chancellor
Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Datuk Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal has been appointed acting vice-chancellor of the university effective Feb 11 following the retirement of Vice-Chancellor Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin.
The appointment of Prof Zul Azhar as the acting vice-chancellor was made through a letter issued by the Higher Education Ministry, stating that he will hold the position until a new vice-chancellor is appointed.
Prof. Zul Azhar was granted an audience with the Raja Muda of Perlis, HRH Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is UniMAP Chancellor, at Istana Arau last night to present his credentials on the appointment.
HRH Tuanku Syed Faizuddin expressed hope that UniMAP would continue striving for excellence as the effort had been done by the first vice-chancellor, Prof Kamarudin, during his 14 years of service, making him the longest serving vice-chancellor in Malaysia. He is now serving as a Special Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education.
During the closed-door meeting, HRH Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also expressed his hope that UniMAP will not stray from its direction to be one of the leading engineering university, even when there will be a change in the university top management.
Meanwhile, Prof. Zul Azhar gave his word to continue with the good work left by the former Vice Chancellor and would also make improvement to strengthen some aspects of its development.
“With the support from UniMAP staff and students, the university and I are commited in continuing the plans and effort made to make better of our university, at the same time making sure that we are on the right path in making UniMAP the leading university in engineering” said Prof Zul Azhar.
