UniMAP receives zakat of RM130, 000
Kangar, 23 February – The issue of students not eating enough was once a hot issue in social media and newspapers. Being concerned of the matter, various parties including banking agencies have steeped forward. Two banking institutions take the initiative to hand over ‘zakat’ amounting to RM130,000 to Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) aims to help underprivileged students.
Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Deputy Vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Datuk Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said that the banking agencies are Affin Islamic Bank Berhad dan Bank Islam (M) Berhad, which donated RM30, 000 and RM100,000 each.
“This money will be kept in UniMAP Zakat Fund and will be distributed to underprivileged students who are eligible to receive the fund”.
“The amount to be given to each eligible underpriviled students are from RM300.00 to RM 1,000.00, and the entitled students will received the amount twice per course of their study.
Prof. Zul hopes that other banking agencies will follow suit in helping universities to help provide aids to underpriviled students.
“UniMAP is commited in providing necessary support, as we believed that financial problem should not be a factor preventing the students in shining academically”.
