Raja Muda Perlis Urges Universities, IPT To Hold Regular Art Activities

KANGAR, 2 March (Bernama) – Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail urged public universities and institutions of higher learning to regularly organise art activities with a focus on multi-ethnic arts and culture.

He decreed that art associations and agencies should also arrange art and cultural activities at all locations through the hosting of seminars and discourses.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin expressed that music, theatre, art, dance, choreography, creative writing and craft are manifestations of civilisation in a country and they complement the quality of life therein.

“The role of arts and culture has been accepted as a contribution to the existence of an excellent society,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Traditional Dance Under the Rule of Monarchy Competition (Pertandingan Tarian Tradisional Di Bawah Pemerintahan Diraja) at the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Dewan Kapitol on Wednesday.

He proclaimed that art and culture activities must be intensified to create a specialised formal education system for such activities in school.

“If it is not taught formally and academically, then it will remain an activity to be slotted only during cultural events,” he said.

He declared that society has to discard the stigma toward those with a career in arts and culture.

Also gracing the event with her presence was Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Also in attendance were Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of UniMAP Prof Dato' Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal and the Special Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin.
