MAIPs Distributes RM123 Million Zakat Tithe

Pauh Putra, 25 March – The Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) distributed the zakat tithe aid in the sum of RM123,570,316 to the underprivileged from January to December 2015.

The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, also the Yang Dipertua of MAIPs, said that during the same period, MAIPs had distributed RM5,776,803 in the Cost of Living Aid to 8,084 recipients, RM3,206,550 Zakat Fitrah Aid to 8,016 recipients, RM2,944,750 Higher Learning Institute (IPT) Aid to 2,945 students, RM471,865 Medical Aid, RM324,154 Disaster Relief, RM1,850,000 Islamic Education Institute Aid to 15 Islamic Education Institutes in Perlis and RM3,411,310 for Community and Preaching Programmes and Activities.

“MAIPs had donated 725 houses valued at RM10,797,311 in total in 2013, 588 houses at RM10,440,662 (2014) and 513 houses at RM10,346,693 (2015)," he said at the Zakat Statement Presentation Ceremony 2015 in conjunction with the A-Heart Fund Launching Ceremony at the Dewan Ilmu, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) yesterday.

Gracing the ceremony with her presence was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shareen Akashah Khalil.

Also present were Perlis Chief Minister Datuk Seri Azlan Man, Chairperson of the State Islamic Affairs Committee Khairi Hassan and the Special Advisor for the Malaysian Minister of Higher Education Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin.

During the ceremony, 47 students who are currently studying in the Middle East were bestowed Student Aid and were represented by their parents.

His Royal Highness further declared that MAIPs welcomes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) collaboration programmes with other departments, organisations or private corporations in terms of either financing, trade or  services.

“This is because MAIPs genuinely desires to be known as genuine partners and a medium for impactful implementation of programmes by all parties in Perlis.

“MAIPs also urges the public to share information with MAIPs of any cases of those underprivileged entitled to receive zakat aid that has 'slipped through the system',” he continued.

His highness said that no underprivileged person in the state should be left out or missed out because of a number of existing mechanisms to help them which include the amil collectors, the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Assemblymen, Department Heads, teachers and others.
