A-HEART Festival 2016: Former VC Lectures On Volunteerism

Pauh Putra, 27 March – In conjunction with the Autism Hub for Educational Resources and Training (A-HEART) Festival 2016, former Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Brig Jen Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin gave a lecture on volunteerism at Dewan Ilmu today.

The Special Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education also shared his experiences from his days in secondary school to the present to approximately 200 UniMAP students and employees.

He said that volunteer activities does not only mean financial donation but it also means contributing time and energy to help the needy such as autistic children.

He expressed that volunteer activities will not only help those in need but will also create unity among the community because of participation by every member of society regardless of ethnicity or religion.

In short, there are a host of advantages to be gleaned through volunteerism that would also contribute to the socio-economic development of the country,” he declared.

Besides Dr Kamarudin's lecture, UniMAP researcher Dr Hakimah Osman, a L'Oréal Women In Science winner, also held a talk entitled “How to Dream Big”.

The three-day festival which began 25 March also had a number of interesting programmes such as Ask Hatta Dolmat, Charity Walk, Vendors Fair and the sale of food and clothes with the purpose of gathering funds to build an A-Heart Centre in the state for special needs children especially the autistic in the northern region.
