Industry Support Strengthens TVET

Alor Setar, 11 April: Cooperation from the industry is a requirement in the efforts to help the government to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said cooperation with the industry not only would strengthen research but also to increase the quality of academia.

“I believe that through collaboration with the industry, a learning and research programme would be able to fulfil the industry's needs.

“With this, students would be familiarised with the industry and be much more marketable upon graduation,” he said.

The speech text was read by Deputy Secretary General (Policy) Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azhar Yahaya  during the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) School of Environmental Engineering (PPKAS) Gemilang Dasawarsa (Glorious Decade) Inauguration Dinner Ceremony at the TH Hotel recently.

Also present was the Special Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kamarudin Hussin and the UniMAP Dean of PPKAS Dr. Nasrul Hamidin.

The UniMAP PPKAS Gemilang Dasawarsa Dinner Ceremony was held for the first time with the aim of appreciating its members for helping to bring recognition to the PPKAS name for 10  years since its establishment.

Meanwhile, the Dean of PPKAS Dr. Nasrul Hamidin said in his speech that the ceremony would be a platform for alumni to communicate with one other and with the school.

“PPKAS will employ the alumni association as a medium to gather the latest industry information about their requirements for our graduates and simultaneously help to enhance our present curriculum so our graduates would be more distinguished and accepted by the industry,” he added.
