UniMAP To Organise Korean Summer Programme (KSP)

Kangar, 12 April – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) will be organising a summer programme for South Korean students scheduled to take place in the coming July and August.

Dubbed the Korea Summer Program (KSP), the event will be run by UniMAP Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (UniMAP Holdings) to expose South Korean students to cultures and traditions of the numerous ethnicities in the country especially in Perlis.

UniMAP Holdings Chief Executive Officer Baharudin Abdul Majid said that the goal of KSP is also to create a spirit of kinship between Malaysia and South Korea in the era of  globalisation and simultaneously encourage the transfer of knowledge between the two countries.

“The KSP Programme will be held for four weeks for IPT students from South Korea to learn the cultural nuances and traits of the host country through several scheduled programmes at a number of selected location,” he said in a statement here today.

UniMAP Holdings recently took the opportunity to sign a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Hi-Tech Solutions Korea which will be responsible for managing the intake of Korean participants for KSP.

Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, also the Chancellor of UniMAP, graced the event with his presence to witness the ceremony which took place in conjunction with UniMAP Korean Week (UniKOW).

Hi-Tech Solutions was represented by its General Directors Jong-Pil Kang and Sin Hyun Kim while Baharudin and UniMAP Holdings Chief Operating Officer Dr Mohd Najmuddin Mohd Hassan represented UniMAP Holdings.

Also present was Special Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education Brig. Jen. Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin who is also the former UniMAP Vice Chancellor and Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal, the UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and International.

UniKOW was held for three days with the theme “Researching Korea,  Designing Perlis” as a follow-up to the UniMAP Student Council (MPP) Jelajah Ilmu visit to South Korea last December.

Among the programmes held at UniKOW were the International Colloquium for Korean High-Tech Application (ICKHA 2016), a Korean Food Fair, a taekwondo display and the 7th International Engineering Invention and Innovation Exhibition (i-ENVEX 2016).

Baharudin further said that KSP was expected to attract many participants because of its range of activities that covers academic activities such as English and entrepreneurial classes to recreational and sporting activities like the Local Fruits Festival, archery, kayaking, cultural shows and a soccer match.

UniMAP Holdings has created an organisation module specifically for KSP and we believe that students participating in the programme will return home with new and exciting experiences,” he said.
