UniMAP Committed To Producing Highly Skilled Human Resources

Kangar, 26 April – As the northern region education hub, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is committed to producing highly skilled human resources capable of contributing to the manufacturing and service industry of the country.

Director of the Centre for Industrial and Governmental Collaboration Dr. Mukhzeer Mohamad Shahimin said UniMAP is ready to collaborate with any organisation in an effort to increase the competitiveness of students.

UniMAP will continue to support and be a strategic partner with any organisation in order to develop competitiveness, skills and character building of students as their preparation to face global challenges.

“This would also ensure Malaysia has the graduates needed to achieve its target as a high-income country with a knowledge-based economy by 2020,” he said when launching the UniMAP Sector Focused Career Fair (SFCF) 2016 which took place yesterday at Dewan Ilmu, UniMAP Main Campus, Pauh Putra.

The two-day programme was jointly organised by UniMAP and Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) and attended by over 30 industry participants which focused on the National Key Economic Areas.

Also present was Siti Norliza Mohd Sahar the Head of the Malaysian Talent Development (Graduate Employability) TalentCorp and Eric Aw Zhern Li Director of the UniMAP SFCF Programme.

According to Dr. Mukhzeer, the career fair is an annual programme of the GICG and UniMAP but this was the inaugural SFCF and it received a tremendous response not just from UniMAP students, but also from other institutions in the country.

“We believe that programmes such as this would spotlight the talents of our students and at the same time attract multinational corporations and high value manufacturing to hire them,” he said.

He added that this would indirectly help these companies to expand their operations globally.

Besides UniMAP, three other universities are slated to hold the SFCF, namely Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) on the 11 and 12 May 2016,  Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) on the  27 and 28 September 2016 and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) on 18 October 2016.

The SFCF was also visited by students from other institutions such as UPSI, Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIP), Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Arau branch, dan the northern region Politeknik.
