UniMAP Scores 100 Percent Of Awards At ITEX 2016

Kuala Lumpur, 14 May – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) swept up the awards at the 27th International Innovation Exhibition 2016 (ITEX '16) which took place from 12 to 14 May 2016 and held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

According to UniMAP Vice Chancellor UniMAP Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal the percentage of gold medals won this year was better than the previous year, which was 30 percent in 2015 compared to a rise to 46 percent in 2016.

“There was a 16 percent rise in gold medals won by UniMAP researchers and this is a significant achievement for us at UniMAP,” he said after the announcement of the ITEX '16 award-winners.

UniMAP participated with 15 products and won seven gold, six silver and two bronze medals.

He said that the victory was sweeter because four UniMAP products had scored gold and two had scored silver medals, and were selected for seven special awards conferred at the Malam Budaya Cipta which took place at the Hotel Mandarin Oriental last night.

Besides winning a gold medal, the Hybrid Fiber-Wireless (FI-WI) System Using Flexible Cross Correlation (FCC) Code For Future Access Networks by Dr. Mohd Rashidi Che Beson was also chosen to receive two special awards from the Asia Invention Association and the Korea Invention Academy.

The MEMS Structures Characterization on PMMA Layer Using KrF Excimer Laser Micromachining product by Associate Prof Dr. Yufridin Wahab was also bestowed a special award from the Asia Invention Association.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohd Zakimi Zakaria's research product the Stance Wheel Innovation of Supporter Chair for Disabled Patient was conferred a special award by the Korea Invention Academy.

Wireless Inductive Coil Sensor Based on ABS Material for Smart On-Line Partial Discharge Detection in High Voltage Power Cable, a research product by Dr. Muzamir Isa, received a special award from the Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart (INST).

Although awarded a silver medal, Dr. Sam Sung Ting's EcoMulch Film also received a special award from the Korea Invention Academy. ZNODE: Novel Natural Dye DSSC From Fruit Mixtures For Nature’s Energy Conversion by Ili Salwani Mohamad received a special award from the Association of Polish Inventions and Rationalizers.

ITEX '16 showed off over 1000 researches from various research universities, research centres local and foreign, primary and secondary schools, and private corporations from 22 countries that include China, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iraq, Korea, Oman, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States of America, Vietnam, Malaysia and many other countries.

The Malaysian Young Inventors Exhibition (MYIE) was also held during the event as a platform for 152 young researchers of the country to exhibit their research findings. These young researchers would have the opportunity to compete with foreign young researchers in the upcoming Asian Young Inventors Exhibition (AYIE).

ITEX '16 was open for the public from 9AM to 6PM (12 -13 May 2016) and from 9AM to 2PM (14 May 2016).
